On International Women’s Day we want to celebrate the determination and passion of our Year Seven girls rugby team! The team had their first experience of a rugby competition at the Soccerdome Wigan. They played against Rainford, Hawkley Hall, Deanery and Haddock High Schools. The girls played extremely well and some matches were close. The results weren’t quite what SJF hoped for – one draw and three losses – but the girls have learnt a lot from the experience and have a base to build on. The team are positive for future matches. Coaches Miss Harrison, a Teaching Assistant, and Miss Thomas from Wigan Warriors Foundation and both players of the Wigan Warriors Ladies team are now looking for some more opportunities to play rugby in the borough. The team were Eva, Nieve, Isabelle, Amy, Meisha, Evissa, Lucy L, Lucy A, Laine, Grace, Beth and Lauren. Try scorers were: Lauren, Lucy A, Laine and Beth. Girls rugby training is on Monday 3-4pm, please see Miss Harrison for more information.
